“A collection of the proper knowledge for the proper purpose is an incalculable and powerful assortment of assets with no force too mighty to conquer.”

- Black Topographical Center

Just a few weeks ago, the murder of George Floyd took place and since that time, Minnesota, the entire country and the world is once again grappling with issues of white supremacy, justice, white privilege, and racism. This week, we wanted to do an encore of a previously released podcast focused on the work of Bukata Hayes and Stacy Wells. They discuss their Write on Race initiative that was born out of a Minnesota community wrestling with how to be better prepared for a racist incident - exactly like what we are experiencing right now.  In this episode, you will:

  • Meet Bukata Hayes and Stacy Wells and learn how they piloted an innovative approach to help a community to understand and think critically about race and its impact on our individual and collective lives.

  • Listen to how they developed the community-based journaling project, Write on Race to be Right on Race, and how it prompted a 90% white community to learn about how race impacts many areas of public life such as education and health care.

  • Understand the transformation that occurred from this project that spanned two years allowing people to use their head and their hearts to discuss race honestly and courageously.

  • Hear about what Bukata and Stacy learned as they launched this socially innovative community effort and how they have continued to move their work forward in other ways.
